Port Huron - Mayland E. Skinner, 85, died unexpectedly on Friday, August 1, 2008, following a short illness.

He was born October 9, 1922 in East Detroit and has lived in the area for many years. He married Marion R. Schuck on April 11, 1942. She died June 20, 2006.

Mayland started his automotive career with Mr A.G. Mitchell in New Baltimore in 1939 whom he credits the opportunity to enter the business world. Mayland was the owner of Skinner Buick Ponticac GMC in Richmond, Skinner Chevrolet in Port Huron and Skinner Chevrolet Pontiac Oldsmobile in Yale.

He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army. Mayland served on numerous local and national boards and management associations. He was very generous and was extremely active in the community volunteering for many organizations. He was a member of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed many sporting activities.

He is survived by children, Alan (Kathy) Skinner, Vyrene Wilson, both of Port Huron and Kimberly Post of Colorado; grandchildren, Laural, Sarah and Benjamin Skinner, Russell Wilson Jr., Serene (Corey) Hunt, Maelynn, LeeAnn and Randall Bernosky; great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Isabelle and Dylan Schwartz, Grace Wilson, Eva Hunt and Kyle Jones; brother, Leigh Skinner and a sister, Lilah (Rolland) Thornton.

Mayland is preceded in death by his sister, Margaret McLaughlin and his sister-in-law, Ruth Skinner.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary Church. The Rev. Alain Mayama will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery in New Baltimore.

Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service time at church.

Memorials may be made to St. Marys Church in Port Huron, St. Marys Church in New Baltimore or Sanctuary at Marydale.
