Donald J. Ceglarek, 84, of Marysville,

died Sunday, November 9, 2008 in Regency On The Lake following a

long illness.

He was born January 9, 1924 in

Port Huron son of the late Edward and Madeline (Sarnowski) Ceglarek

and has been a life long area resident.

Donald married the former Helen L.

Howard on May 10, 1946 in Port Huron. She preceded him in death on

December 25, 2003.

On June 9, 1943 Donald enlisted in

the U.S.N. During his enlistment he served aboard the U.S.S. Denver

and the U.S.S. Montpelier also known as Cruiser Division Twelve. On

September 3, 1946 he was awarded by the Secretary of the Navy the

Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon for outstanding heroism displayed by

Division Twelve in action against hostile Japanese ships of Empress

Augusta Bay November 1 st and 2 nd and hostile

air attack of the morning of November 2, 1943. He also was awarded

the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Service Ribbon and

the W.W.II Victory Medal. Donald was a 30 year employee at

G.T.W.R.R and past member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way,

Knights of Columbus Council #521 and American Legion Charles Hammond

Post #8.

He is survived by his daughter,

Jean M. (Dennis) Nalepa of Port Huron; son, Ronald J. (Ursula Jean)

Ceglarek of Kimball; son Richard A. (Mary Jane) Ceglarek of Orange

City, FL; 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Bernard

(Darlene) Ceglarek of Port Huron; daughter-in-law, Nancy Ceglarek of

Marysville and several nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by

his wife Helen L. Ceglarek and son, Ralph E. Ceglarek.

Mass of Resurrection will be 10:00

am Thursday in St. Stephen Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph A.

Gagnon will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery with

military honors under auspices of the St. Clair County Allied

Veterans Council.

Visiting hours are 2-4 and 7-9 pm.

Wednesday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9 am Thursday at the

church. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Wednesday evening.

Pallbearers will be Paul Weiss,

Richard Ceglarek, Jr, Barb Becktold, Adam Ceglarek, (BU1(SCW)) Jeffrey A. Ceglarek, Tom Kennedy, John Howard and Mark Howard.

Memorials may be given to the

Wishes of The Family or the St. Clair County Child Abuse/Neglect
