Norman J Artman

Norman John Artman, 86, of Port Huron, died Friday, July 25, 2014 in his home.

The youngest of eight children, Norman was born November 10, 1927 to Sarah and Anthony Artman on his family’s farm west of Helena, Michigan. He attended Filmore-Sand Beach #10 School and worked on the farm before joining the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the U.S.S. Griffin during World War II. After returning home he moved to Port Huron and began working at Port Huron Sulfite Paper (Domtar Paper) for 42 years, retiring November 30, 1989.

Norman married Faye Reiche on September 10, 1949 in a double wedding ceremony with Faye’s sister, Donna and Ray Roberts at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Ruth, Michigan. Faye and Norman made Port Huron their home for 65 years, until he passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Faye; four children, Janet (Michael) Martindale, Diane (Earl) Creighton, Karen (Raymond) Kraus and Richard (Sherry) Artman; seven grandchildren, Daniel Martindale, Christopher Martindale, Chad (Emily) Martindale, Andria (Bobby) Rose, Renee Kraus, Carrie (Mark) Anderson and Sarah Artman; six great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Lauren Rose, Kaiden Kraus, Ashley, Jake and Kate Anderson; a brother, Stanley Artman; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and sisters, Joseph, Raymond, Clarence, Mary Wipping, Evelyn Volmering and Florence Roberts and their spouses; his brother-in-law, Boyd Reiche and Raymond Roberts, along with Faye’s parents, Arthur and Isabel Reiche; nephews, Daniel Roberts, Larry and Steve Roberts; and niece, Carol Volmering.

A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2014 in Holy Trinity Parish - St. Stephen Catholic Church. Reverend Brian K. Cokonougher will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by the Veteran's Honor Guard Alliance.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church.

Our heartfelt thanks to the caregivers who helped with Norman’s care, McLaren - Port Huron Hospital’s sixth floor staff and Blue Water Hospice. To those who prayed for him we are most grateful. We all loved and will miss him.
