Mary F. Purcell, 83, of Port Huron, died Thursday, August 21, 2014, in Marwood Manor.

She was born June 10, 1931 in Port Huron, the daughter of the late Thomas and Helen (Sterosky) Hyde.

Mary graduated from St. Stephen Catholic High School in 1949. She was a devout Catholic and member of St. Stephen Catholic Church and St. Anne’s Altar Society.

She was employed by the City of Port Huron at McMorran Sports Arena and Mary Maxim. She was beloved by her children and family.

She is survived by her children, Susan (Philip) Berger of Hobe Sound, FL, Bernie (Marcia) Purcell of Marysville, Barry (Diana) Purcell of Marysville, Rob Purcell of Fort Gratiot, Patrick Purcell of Ormond Beach, FL and Sandra (Jim) Turpin of Port Huron; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and her siblings, Margaret Toth of Mt. Clemens, Bill Hyde of El Cajon, CA, Dorothy (Russell) Van Ness of Florida, Paul (Erma Jean) Hyde of Fraser and George (Shizuko) Hyde of Cula Vista, CA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, William J. Purcell, her brother, Thomas Hyde and former husband, William E. Purcell.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2014 in Holy Trinity Parish - St. Stephen Catholic Church. Reverend Brian K. Cokonougher will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2014 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday in the church.

A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Sunday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to wishes of the family.
