William P Ward

William P. Ward, 82 of Fort Gratiot, formerly of Lakeport, passed away surrounded by his family Saturday, December 13, 2014.

He was born February 22, 1932 in Port Huron to the late James P. and Ruth Ward. He married Gloria P. Skedel on August 25, 1956 in St. Stephens Catholic Church.

Mr. Ward was a graduate of Marysville High School. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Also, while stationed in Germany he played for the army football team. He worked for Prestolite for 40 years and also served as a Special Deputy for the St. Clair County Sheriff Department for 37 years.

Mr. Ward was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting, fishing, boating and snowmobiling. He was a member of the National Fraternal Order of Police, American Legion Marysville Post #449, V.F.W. May O’Brien Post #8465 and the Knights of Columbus Council 8274. He was a parishioner of St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church for 58 years.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria; sons, James J. (Betty) Ward, Patrick W. (Krista) Ward, Timothy M. (Lynn) Ward and Dennis P. (Stephanie) Ward; grandchildren, Andrew J. Ward, Erin (Michael) Kruszewski, Daniel P. (Taylor) Ward, Brian J. Ward, Bradley T. Ward, Veronica A. Ward, Phoebe J. Ward and Jake R. Ward; great grandson, Ellis W. Ward; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.

Visiting hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and from 9:00 am until the time of service Wednesday at church. A Rosary will be recited by the Knights of Columbus at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, December 17, 2014 in St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church. The Reverend Lee Acervo will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Veteran's Honor Guard Alliance and the U.S. Army.
