Muriel C. “Mert” Sullivan, 81, of Port Huron, died Tuesday, November 3, 2015 in Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit.

She was born August 14, 1934 in Port Huron to the late John and Margaret Hanson. She married Richard T. Sullivan on August 25, 1956 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Port Huron.

Muriel was a graduate of St. Stephen High School and St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in Detroit. She had a long career as a Pediatric Nurse, and also was a nursing instructor at SCCCC. She served as a plant nurse at various Detroit Edison Plants.

She was a member of Gamma Nu Sorority, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Vivians of the Elks Lodge 343 of Port Huron and the Women of the Moose Chapter 99 of Port Huron. She will be dearly missed and always remembered for her baking, her artistic cakes and her creative crafts.

She is survived by her husband, Richard T.; and her children, Tricia (Mark) Ford of Port Huron, John (Debbie) Sullivan of St. Clair, and Colleen (Steve) Guilliat of East China; grandchildren, Molly (Jordan), Matt (Nicole), Abbey, Ben, Emma and Jack; several nieces, nephews; many dear friends; and her loving companion Rixie. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Mary Ann and her sisters, Vernica Dukatz and Shirley “Penny” Stoutenburg; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2015 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and from 10 - 11 a.m. Saturday in the church.

Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015 in Holy Trinity Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Reverend Joseph Gagnon will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Blue Water Hospice.
