E. Dennis O'Brien

E. Dennis Obrien, 86, of Port Huron, died Tuesday, April 5, 2016 in Ann Arbor.

He was born April 10, 1929 in Emmett, MI to the late Earl J. and Clara O’Brien. He married Margaret J. Hickey on March 31, 1951 in St. Stephen Catholic Church, Port Huron. She preceded him in death on June 3, 1991.

Dennis was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Capac High School. He served in the U.S. Army Tank Division in Germany during the Korean War. After his discharge from the service he joined Chrysler Corporation, in 1950 he joined the Kroger Company and later retired after 42 years of service.

Mr. O’Brien was a member of St. Edward on-the-Lake Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #3274, St. Edward’s Ushers Club, St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Edward on-the-Lake Catholic Church, served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a Volunteer Driver for the American Red Cross.

He loved and enjoyed his family very much.

He is survived by three sons, Chris O’Brien of Ann Arbor, Dan (Cathy) O’Brien of Port Huron, and Mike O’Brien of Holly, MI; a granddaughter, Danielle O’Brien of Port Huron; one brother, Leo O’Brien of Lakeport; a sister, Catherine Cone of Port Huron; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Jim, Tom, Bill, Jack and Maurice.

Visitation will be 2- 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2016 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at St. Edward on-the-Lake Catholic Church. A scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016 at St. Edward on-the-Lake Catholic Church. The Reverend Lee Acervo will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

Inurnment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery Columbarium.

Memorials may be made to St. Edward on-the-Lake Church or St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Edward on-the-Lake Catholic Church.
