George Wilton

February 10th, 1921 to November 25th, 2016

George Earl Wilton, 95, of Fort Gratiot Township, passed away peacefully Friday, November 25, 2016 in the arms of his loving wife of 73 years and in the presence of his children.

He was born February 10, 1921 in Port Huron to the late George and Bertha Wilton.

George served as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in the China-Burma India Theatre. He married his sweetheart in Mineral Wells, Texas before going overseas. After his military service he worked for Prestolite Wire for 37 years.

He was an Honorary Life Member of the American Legion, past member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #343 and member of the Cotillion Dance Club.

George enjoyed telling jokes to the congregation at Lakeshore Presbyterian Church when he was able to attend. He enjoyed working his tree farm for 30 years and was an active real estate developer. In his earlier years, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. He especially loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; children, Barry Wilton, Barbara Elizabeth (Stanton) Cobbs, Michael (Judy) Wilton; grandchildren, Jeff (Kelly) Wilton, Adrian Kent, Brittney Edwards and Michael Wilton; great grandchildren, Jillian and Abigail Wilton; sister, Mary Wilton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, November 29, 2016 in Lakeshore Presbyterian Church with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service. The Reverend Bill Davis will officiate. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Wilton, Brittney Edwards, Michael Wilton, Mike Wilton, Barry Wilton and Josh Wilton. Honorary pallbearers will be Erwin and Robert Wilton.

The family would like to thank his nurse, Joan, from Concerned Home Care and the staff at Medilodge for their love and care of George.
