John F Baska

John Francis Baska, 64, of Fort Gratiot, passed away surrounded by family and friends on Monday, July 17, 2017 in Blue Water Hospice Home, Marysville.

He was born January 30, 1953 in Port Huron, to the late Frederick J. and Mary C. “Chris” Baska.

John was a 1971 graduate of Port Huron Northern High School. He met his wife, Debbie, while working at Dorsey House restaurant. They were married on August 2, 1974, at St. Edward on-the-Lake Catholic Church in Lakeport, Michigan and were married 42 years.

John was a self-employed master plumber who owned and operated Baska Plumbing & Heating for 33 years. In addition to running his business, his strong work ethic also led him to build three homes where he and Debbie lived and raised their daughter, Kristin.

From a young age, John had a love for fun and adventure. He shared this sense of adventure with his family and friends by embarking on annual trips to explore new locations in Mexico. He also enjoyed turkey hunting and spending time in nature at his cabin in Mio, Michigan. He was a long time member of St. Edward on-the-Lake Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie; his daughter, Kristin (Shawn) Edie; his granddaughter, Claire; one brother, Stephen Baska; his mother-in-law, Lorraine Rabine; brothers-in-law, Kurt (Karen) Rabine, Mark (Linda) Rabine, and Eric Rabine; sisters-in-law, Donna Baska, Pam (Harold) McCandless and Andrea (Bill) Jurzysta; nieces and nephews, Katie, Chelsea, Rowdy, Riley and Michael Baska, Jim (Makenzie) and Aaron Jurzysta, Danielle, Alicia, Erica and Noah Rabine, and Adam Bennett; special friends, Mike and Sherry Bombard; as well as many other friends and family. He will be especially missed by his long time pet, Tyson. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Fred and Christine Baska and his brother, Fred Baska Jr.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 21, 2017 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

John will lie in state from 9:00 a.m., Saturday, July 22, 2017 at St. Edward on-the-Lake Catholic Church until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Joseph A. Gagnon will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow in Lakeport Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Baska, Mike Bombard, Kurt Rabine, Mark Rabine, Eric Rabine, and Bill Jurzysta.

Memorials may be made to the Blue Water Hospice Home.
