Ethel Dowd

Ethel (Horky) Dowd, 84, of Port Huron, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, June 3, 2010. Ethel was born June 2, 1926 in Detroit and was raised in St. Clair. She moved to Port Huron upon her marriage to Charles D. Dowd on April 24, 1948. Ethel was a graduate of St. Clair High School. She was a retired employee of Chrysler Corporation with thirty years of service. She was a parishioner of strong faith at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Ethel enjoyed volunteering with the church community and singing at mass. She was an avid card player and lifelong Detroit Tigers fan. Ethel's presence was a blessing to everyone she knew. Mrs. Dowd is survived by her sons, Gary E. (Rebecca) Dowd of Stuart, FL and John C. (Nancy) Dowd of Port St. Lucie, FL; her daughters, Candice M. (Roel) Mendoza of Fort Gratiot, Gail F. (David) White of Okemos, and Susan E. (Thomas Zobl) Addley of Port Huron; her grandchildren Emily, Ryan, Sarah (Dustin), Andrew, Amy, Sean, Kaitlin, Zachary, Joseph, and Chloe; her sisters Evelyn Cowan of St. Clair and Emma Sharrow of Marine City; sisters-in-law Ellyn Bates of Carmel, CA, Sr. Margret Dowd of Port Huron, and Erica Dowd of Santa Monica, CA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Beverly A. Dowd; grandson Jacob C. White; husband Charles D. Dowd; and many other beloved family members. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Brian Cokonougher will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visiting hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A reading followed by the rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Her grandsons and Robert Khabbaz will be pallbearers. Memorials may be made in her name to Holy Trinity Parish.
