Denis Tetreau

September 8th, 1932 to November 20th, 2017

Denis David Tetreau, 85, of Port Huron, died Monday, November 20, 2017.

He was born September 8, 1932 in Port Huron to the late Henry and Anne Tetreau. He married his high school sweetheart, Joan M. Schmitt, on November 21, 1953 in St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Denis served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a radio operator. He managed many grocery stores including National Foods, A&P and retired from IGA. He was a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Charles A. Hammond American Legion Post 8.

He enjoyed playing horseshoes and won a tournament sponsored by Port Huron City Recreational Department. He was also proud of his hole-in-one at golf and his 300 game in bowling. He also enjoyed watching freighters on the St. Clair River, spending Christmas Eves with his family and teasing his grandchildren.

Denis is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joan; children, Catherine (Donald II) Roach, Teresa Ellsworth (Douglas Brueckman), Joseph (Wendy) Tetreau, Patricia (Frank) Reid and Stephen (Susan) Tetreau; daughter-in-law, Rosemarie Tetreau (Scott Diller); 19 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; sister, Carol Lambert; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Tetreau, Cudge Schmitt, Mariol Schmitt; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Denis D. Tetreau Jr.; and brothers, Charles Tetreau and James Tetreau.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-9 Friday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.

Denis will lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 25, 2017 in Holy Trinity Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Reverend Salvatore Palazzolo will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
