Father Thomas F. Esper

Father Thomas Francis Esper, 91, of Lakeport, died Wednesday, December 27, 2017.

He was born March 10, 1926 in Dearborn, to the late Anthony M. and Gertrude E. Esper.

Father Esper was ordained June 2, 1951.

He was a former pastor of Holy Innocents Church in Roseville, St. Mary’s Church in Redford, St. Louis Church in Mt. Clemens, St. Gertrude Church in St. Clair Shores, St. Joseph’s Church in Detroit, and most recently St. Edward on-the-Lake Church in Lakeport, retiring in 1996.

He is survived by and loved by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Gregory Esper, Father Clement Esper, Raymond Esper, Jerome Esper and Tony Esper; his two sisters, Rita Hoare and Alma Given.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. Edward on-the-Lake Catholic Church, with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2018 in St. Edward on-the-Lake Catholic Church with visitation two hours prior to the service.

Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Dearborn.

Memorials may be made to St. Edward on-the-Lake Catholic Church or to Sacred Heart Major Seminary.
