Robert L. Corbin

August 13th, 1934 to September 4th, 2010






Robert Liggett Corbin, 76 died peacefully, after a long illness, September 4, 2010 in Marwood Nursing Care.

He was born August 13, 1934 in Rochester, New York to the late Robert and Lucile Corbin and has lived in Port Huron for the past 40 years.

He married Carolyn E. Metzger on September 4, 1954 in Rochester, New York.

Bob earned his Business Degree from Alfred University, Alfred, NY and a degree in Forestry at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. Before moving to Port Huron in 1970, he worked for many years at the Weyerhaeuser Corporation. He and his wife opened Corbin Lumber Company in the spring of 1970 and ran the family business for 25 years.

Bob belonged to St. Mary Parish in Port Huron and was a former St. Mary School Board President. He was a member of the Breakfast Optimists, Knights of Columbus, B.P.O.E. #343 and a long time member of the Blue Water Sports Fishing Association. He was an expert salmon fisherman. Bob enjoyed camping with his family, hunting and sports. He followed all the Detroit teams, especially the Pistons. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather who was very proud of his family.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn E. Corbin of Port Huron; daughter, Elizabeth (Charles) Murphy of Akron, OH; son, Robert (Annika) Corbin of Rockville, MD; daughter, Barbara (Patrick) Foley of Jenison, MI; daughter, Mary Eileen (Michael) Kinsella of Centerville, OH; daughter, Martha (Kenneth) Judge of Fort Gratiot; son, Andrew (Ming-Li) Corbin of Woodinville, WA; daughter, Sarah (Paul) Steuer of Hawthorn Woods, IL; grandchildren, Kevin (Michelle), Peter (Rebecca), Daniel and Thomas Murphy; Nicole, Bridgid and Eleanor Corbin; Jenna Foley; Amelia and Nathaniel Kinsella; Kenneth and Ethan Judge; Alexander, Isabella and Arthur Corbin; Eli and Ann Steuer; sister, Mary Corbin Roberts of Payson, AZ; brother, Thomas (Shirley) Corbin of Scottsdale, AZ; sister, Margaret Corbin (Patrick) McFarlane of Rochester, NY; brothers-in-law, Richard Metzger, Frederick (Lorraine) Metzger, Paul (Lois) Metzger; sister-in-law, Peggy Metzger all of Rochester NY and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Bonnie Marie Corbin in 1959.

Mass of Resurrection will be 11 am Thursday in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Zbiginew Zomerfeld will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Visiting hours are 2-5 & 7-9 pm Wednesday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 10 am Thursday at the church. A Rosary will be recited at 7:15 pm Wednesday evening.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Kevin, Peter and Daniel Murphy, Alexander Corbin, Nathaniel Kinsella, Kenneth and Ethan Judge.

Memorials may be given to the League of Catholic Women's Scholarship Fund or St. Mary Catholic Church.
