Larry Scheffler

August 11th, 1948 to July 7th, 2018

Larry Robert Scheffler ended his journey with cancer on Saturday, July 7, 2018 when he went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He was born on August 11, 1948, one of three children to the late Robert and Roberta Scheffler. He graduated from Port Huron Northern High School and enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam War in 1966.

In 1969 he was wed to his beloved wife, Deborah K. Curtis and on June 28, 2018 they celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary.

Larry retired from Ferguson (formerly The Gage Company) following 42 years of devoted service and continued working in the plumbing trade alongside his best friend, Gary Gouin. He was a hard worker and had a work ethic that is far too uncommon these days.

He was an avid and responsible huntsman and enjoyed watching wildlife crossing his land. Larry was a member of the Blue Water Sportsman’s Association. He enjoyed Spaghetti Westerns and country music. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his eight grandchildren.

Larry was dependable and selfless, always helping those who were in need regardless of the time of day.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughters, Heidi (Kirk) Slossar and Holly (Nick) Blais; grandchildren, Kody Blais, Brendan Slossar, Ashley Blais, Adrienne, Allison, Brianna, Abigail and Ava Slossar; his older sister, Shirley (Sheridan) Hoopengarner; younger brother, Randy (Cathy) Scheffler; sisters-in-law, Connie (John) DeBell, Michelle (Skip) Miller; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Sunday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, July 16, 2018 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Elder John DeBell will officiate. Burial will be in Kinney Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Faith in the Fight to help support families battling cancer.
