Joseph P. Grace

Joseph Peter Grace 86, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday October 24, 2010 . He was born on March 5, 1924 in Emmett to the late Peter J. and Irene E. (Kinney) Grace.

Joe was the beloved husband of Mary (Keough). Joe and Mary were married on July 21, 1956 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Emmett and they enjoyed 54 years of life together.

Joe was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel School until the 10 th grade. He graduated in 1942 from St. Stephens High School in Port Huron. Joe attended Assumption College in Windsor, Ontario before enlisting in the Navy during World War II. During his life, Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Lions Club in Emmett and the American Legion in Capac. Joe worked in real estate and insurance for over 60 years with his father and brother, Pat at Peter J. Grace Realty and Insurance in Emmett. Joe enjoyed taking vacations with his family and he had a great love of traveling to the Shrine of Ste. Anne de Beaupre in Quebec with family and friends over the course of his lifetime. Joe loved baseball and attended all of his childrens games. He also loved the University of Notre Dame and attended many of their football games over the years.

Joe was a wonderful father and he is survived by eight children, Mary Alice of Emmett, Ellen (Will) Trepanier of Cleveland, Joseph Jr. (Joanne) of Cleveland, Theresa of Chicago, Kathleen of Macomb Township, Michael (Jo-El) of Macomb Township, Roseanne Corrigan of Cleveland and John of Emmett, eight grandchildren, Kristen, Joey, Megan, Michael, Jack, Noah and Sam Grace and Mary Kate Trepanier. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Garry and Ann Donnellon and many nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his two brothers Pat and Peter, his sister-in-law, Mary, and his son-in-law Ed Corrigan.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11 am. Thursday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Emmett.Burial will follow in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Visiting hours are 5-8 pm. Tuesday and 2-8 pm. Wednesday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and from 10 am. until the service time Thursday at church.
