Dennis M. Schieman

December 1st, 1941 to June 15th, 2011
On June 15, 2011, Dennis M.Mike Schieman passed away at his home in North Lakeport, overlooking Lake Huron. He was born six days before Pearl Harbor, December 1 st , 1941, the son of the late Eugene and Margaret Schieman. He lived most of his life in the Port Huron area.

He went to St. Joseph and St. Stephen schools. He Married Beverly Sharon Alexander in 1963. He graduated from Michigan Technological University with a Bachelor in Applied Physics, and was recruited by Schlumberger Well Services in 1964. He retired from there in 1981. He then attended University of Michigan, attaining his teaching certification in 1985. He retired from St. Clair County Skill Center in 2000 where he taught Industrial Math.

Mike had lake water in his veins. He lived and traveled all over the country but The Lake drew him back. He always rented or owned a cottage on the shore, finally moving to a lakefront home in 1981. He loved being out on the boat and beach with his family. Mike and Sharon would often take the cruiser up to Georgian Bay and the North Channel with friends.

Anything could be constructed or fixed by him. When the lake levels were high, he single handedly built a breakwall and jetty. The first part was done with a crane he made himself out of an old Dodge van, a TV antenna mast, and spare parts from the oil field. His gardens were lush and plentiful.

He would always do the right thing, often when others around him didn't know how. When a swimmer was drowning off a crowded harbor pier, it was Mike who pulled him out. He stood up to bullies and protected those who couldn't protect themselves.

He was a Husband who made a home with, and cared for his beloved wife. A Father who went to Cub Scout rocket races, built apartments, and fixed failing brakes. He was Grandfather who taught another generation how to fish and love your family.

He was our inspiration, our comedian, our role model to succeed. He was our hero without a cape.

Mike is survived by many who loved him. His wife Sharon of 48 years. His children Wes (Rachel) Schieman of Applegate; Linda (Jeff) Anderson of Croswell; Sherri Lavery of Clyde. Grandchildren Jessica, Jadean, Maggie, Alex, Dylan, Briana, and Grayson. Sister Linda Wylie of Port Huron. Twin Brother David (Joan) Schieman of Gobles, MI. Also one Aunt, Joan Collins of Port Huron, and several Cousins, Nephews and Nieces

Memorial Mass will be 10am Saturday in St. Edward on-the-Lake Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph M. Esper will officiate.
