William Corbett

William J. Chief Corbett, 78, died Thursday, July 14, 2011 in his home.

He was born October 26, 1932 in Belle River, Ontario. He married Kathleen M. Kay Dunlavey on September 15, 1956. She preceded him in death on October 23, 2007.

Bill was a veteran of the Korean War serving as a Flight Medic in The Air Force. He later joined the Detroit Police Department working his way up to the rank of Commander and was instrumental in the establishment of the internal affairs division. Bill served as the Chief of Police in Ann Arbor from 1980-1990. He then served as Chief of Police in Port Huron from 1990 2008. He was the Past President of the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police and was a distinguished member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He was a 1971 graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy.

He is survived by his loving friend and fiancee', Andrea Solak; daughter, Kelly Ann Corbett; son Shawn Michael (Michelle) Corbett; brother-in-law, William Bowdy and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at McMorran Auditorium. The Rev. Thomas Seppo will officiate. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery. Military Rites will be under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans.

Visiting hours are 5-9 p.m. Saturday and 2-9 p.m. Sunday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. Until the service time Monday at McMorran Auditorium.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations my be made to Thin Blue Line of Michigan.
