Mary K Beebe

Mary Kay Beebe, 75, died peacefully, Wednesday, Feb. 15, surrounded by her family. She was born Nov. 10, 1936, in Port Huron where she lived her entire life.
She married Eugene "Ed" Beebe on Sept. 12, 1959, in St. Mary's Catholic Church and together they built a life dedicated to their family and their community. He preceded her in death in 2007.
She graduated from St. Stephens High School in 1954 and attended Port Huron Junior College where she studied to be a teacher. She taught at Lakeport Elementary School and St. Isadore Catholic School in Macomb.
When her children reached school age, she worked for several years as the librarian at St. Edward's On-the-Lake Elementary School. She later worked for Haynes Realty and JoAnn Wine Realty, but the work she loved most was as a receptionist and designer at her dear friend Peg Armstrong's floral shop, Ruff's. Mary Kay was a member of the Port Huron Yacht Club where she belonged to the Women's Auxiliary.
Mary Kay was honored with the Sally Montgomery Memorial Woman of the Year Award in 1980. She also was a member of the All-St. Stephen's Reunion Committee, and she was an active member of Mainstreet Port Huron where she put tireless energy toward efforts to save her beloved downtown. To that end she invested her time in events such as the Miss Michigan Pageant and the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade and she was instrumental in procuring "Good Morning America" coverage of Port Huron's biggest event, Boat Night, which resulted in Spencer Christian broadcasting live from the Port Huron Yacht Club in 1990.
Mary Kay is survived by her six children, Ann (Scott) Austin, John (Tammy) Beebe, Stephen Beebe and special friend Wesley Kennedy, Mary (John) Campbell, Michael (Synthia) Beebe and Elizabeth Jones (Mike); her siblings, Martha Bennett, Edward J. (Joyce) Bennett, Margaret Anne (Roger) Fern, and Patrick (Nancy Stepanian) Bennett, brother-in-law, George (Jan) Beebe, sisters-in-law Jacquelin and Mona Beebe, 21 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews and special friends, Donna Benedict, Joan Cleary, Sharon Hall, Patricia Nuttle, Carol Sheridan and Mary Barbara and Tony Hudalla. Her family is immensely grateful for the compassionate and wonderful care provided her by the staff of Accelerated Home Care and Heartland Hospice at Lake Huron Woods where she resided for the past year.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Edward Bennett, beloved sister Joan Bowling and brothers-in-law Marty and Carl Beebe.
A Celebration of her life will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19 at the Port Huron Yacht Club.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 2 p.m. Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Port Huron Yacht Club Memorial Fund, the Poor Clare's of Perpetual Adoration in Rockford, IL or any hospice organization of the donor's choice.
