Cunegunda Knapp

Cunegunda M. Knapp, 93, passed away on October 7, 2012 in the Missouri Veteran’s Home in St. Louis, Missouri.

Cunegunda was born on May 29, 1919 in Port Huron. She was the youngest child of William and Matilda Sterosky.

She married Charles Taylor of Port Huron on April 3, 1956. He passed away February 19, 1970. On June 24, 1971 she married Robert Knapp in Orlando, FL. He also preceded her in death.

Cunegunda served in the U.S. Marine Corp and in the Army Air Force. She was Airman 1st Class and was honorably discharged in 1953. She served as a pallbearer at President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s funeral.

She was a 1936 graduate of St. Stephen’s High school, worked at General Motors in Flint, MI and at Women’s Benefit Association in Port Huron. She enjoyed playing cards and games of any kind. She loved to give out gifts, especially to children.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Camilla Armstrong, Roseanne Kemp, Helen Hyde, Olepha Kelly and two brothers, Norbert Sterosky and William Sterosky.

Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph A. Gagnon will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery with military honors under auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veteran Council.

Visiting will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Monday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 10:30 am Tuesday at the church. A rosary will be recited at 7pm Monday evening.

Memorials for Cunegunda may be given to the Mid-City Nutrition Center or St. Joseph Catholic Church
