Clarence Artman

Clarence M. Artman Port Huron-Clarence M. Artman, 82, died Sunday, May 7, 2006 in Port Huron Hospital after a brief illness. Clarence was born December 20, 1923 in Sand Beach Twp., MI. He married Lula Mae Harrington on June 14, 1952 in Port Huron. She died May 3, 2006. Clarence was employed at Prestolite for 40 years and loved working there. He retired in 1986. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and later enjoyed recalling stories of his experiences. He was a founding member of St. Mary Church. Clarence was the handyman of his Cooper Avenue neighborhood. Clarence is survived by his son Michael R. Artman (Anita M. Shagena) of Port Huron; daughter, Sherry L. (Bob) Matevich of Mt. Pleasant, MI; grandson, Rob C. Matevich of Mt. Pleasant, MI; brothers, Stanley Artman of Sarasota, FL and Norman (Faye) Artman of Port Huron; sisters, Evelyn (Cornelius) Volmering and Florence Roberts, both of Ruth, MI. He is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony & Sarah Artman; sister, Mary Wipping; and brothers, Joseph & Raymond Artman. Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Simeon T. Iber, Pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Military rites will be under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council. Visiting hours will be from 3-5pm and 7-9 pm Wednesday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9 am Thursday at the church. Pallbearers will be Dick Artman, Terry Harrington, Dave Moran, Ken Roberts, Paul Volmering and Mike Wipping. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Batey, William Fox and Bernie Hillock.
