Steven Thomas

Steven H. Thomas,55 of Port Huron, died Wednesday February 7, 2007 in St. Johns Hospital as a result of complications from an auto accident. He was born in Port Huron on January 12, 1952 and has been a life long resident. Steve attended Port Huron Catholic High School and graduated from Port Huron Northern High School. Steve married Janet Marie Gaffney on November 10, 1972 in Port Huron. Steve was employed at St. Clair County Mental Health as a Mental Health Assistant. Previously he worked as a journeyman tool and die maker at Mueller Brass, Baker Electrical and U.S. Farathane. He was also owner of Thomas's Rentals in Port Huron and was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church. Steve enjoyed many recreational activities including snorkeling, biking, boating, camping, swimming, dancing and grilling. He was a wonderful, generous family man, and a loyal friend. He was very well known for his beautiful outdoor Christmas displays, being Santa Claus, and for is Fourth of July celebrations. He will be greatly missed. Steve is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter, Lisa (Steve) Frey; son, Mike (Cindy) Thomas; grandchildren, Jeniel Greenlaw, Jacob LaRowe, David Raema, Jonathan and Naomi Frey; brother, David (Jeanne) Thomas; father-in-law William G. Gaffney; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill & Nancy Gaffney, Connie & Dave Nicholson, Kathy & Dennis Jahn, Tom & Karen Gaffney. And his "bestest buddy" Phil Buckridge. Steve is preceded in death by his parents Harold & Eleanor Thomas. Funeral services will be held 10 am Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Brian K. Cokonougher, Pastor will officiate. Visitation is 2 to 9 pm Sunday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9:30 am Monday at the church. A scripture service will be held at 7 pm Sunday evening. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission or the Sienna Heights Scholarship Fund.
