Adele M. Stommel

Adele M. Stommel, age 94 of Port Huron, died Friday, October 31, 2008 in Barss Residential Care.

 She was born September 7, 1914 in Marine City daughter of the late Julius N. and Grace (Kuhn) Bates.

 She married Kenneth J. Stommel on November 11, 1939 in Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. He preceded her in death in February of 1974.

 Adele was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She volunteered at Mercy Hospital for over 40 years and served on the board at Mercy Marydale Retirement Center.

 She is survived by daughters, Margo S. Ganson of Los Angeles, CA and Sr. Adele Stommel, IHM of Farmington; sons, Kenneth J. (Kittie) Stommel, Jr. of Port Huron; George R. (Brenda) Stommel of Port Huron; Robert J. (Theresa) Stommel of Naples, FL and James E. (Kelly) Stommel of Port Huron; 7 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

 Adele was preceded in death by her husband Circuit Judge Kenneth J. Stommel and daughter Mary Stommel Hoyt.

 Mass of Resurrection will be 10:00 am Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph A. Gagnon will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

 Visitation will be 3:00 to 6:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm Tuesday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9:15 am Wednesday at the church.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the IHM Retirement Fund or Mercy Marydale Retirement Center.
