Dennis J. 'Pat' Dowd

Dennis J. Pat Dowd, 90, of Port Huron went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 15, 2008 in Mercy Hospital.

He was born October 24, 1917 in Kenockee Township, son of the late John and Mary Dowd.

Pat married the former Dorothy G. Morgan on August 19, 1950 in Port Huron. She preceded him in death, March 24, 2007.

Pat was a graduate of St. Stephen High School. Together with his brother Chuck he owned and operated Dowd Brothers Gas Station for more than 50 years. He was an Army veteran of WW II serving under General Patton in many campaigns in Europe and Africa. His awards included the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon; 3 Bronze Service Stars; Good Conduct Ribbon and a Purple Heart. Pat was a life member of V.F.W. Post #796 and B.P.O.E. #343 and a member of Charles Fulton Post, American Legion, St. Clair. He was a member of St. Stephen Church and Old St. Stephen Athletes. Pat was very active with the Golden Gloves in his younger years. He was an avid bowler and reader and enjoyed dancing, socializing with his family, friends and spending time with his grandchildren.

Pat will be sadly missed by his sons, Patrick M. Dowd of Port Huron and Tim S. (Suzie) Dowd of Burtchville, his daughter, Colleen A. (Joe) Denczek of Fenton; granddaughters, Nichole and Erin; sisters, Sr. John Baptist, O.P. of Adrian, Ellen (George ) Bates of Carmel Valley, CA and Sr. Margaret Dowd, I.H.M. of Port Huron; sisters-in-law, Ethel Dowd of Port Huron, Joyce Dowd of Orlando, FL, Eileen Dowd of Denver, CO and Erica Dowd of Santa Monica, CA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pat was preceded in death by his siblings, William, Genevieve, Mary Railean, John, Charles and Joseph Dowd.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday in St. Stephen Catholic Church. The Rev. Brian K. Cokonougher, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery with Military Rites under direction of St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.

Visiting hours are 2:00 until 4:00 and 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. Sunday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home with a scripture service at 7:00 p.m.
