Velva B. Stambersky, 96, of Clearwater, FL passed away on Friday, April 25, 2014
She was born March 15, 1918 in Holland, MO and migrated to Detroit in her early twenties looking for work, which she found at Chrysler Corporation. She worked there for 35 years and has enjoyed an equal number of years retired.
Velva enjoyed hunting and fishing at the cabin in northern Michigan and spending lots of good times with family and friends.
Velva leaves behind her daughter, Phyllis (Bob) Nicholas of Lakeport; grandsons, Mark (Suzi) Nitzel and Todd Nitzel of Port Huron; 2 great-grandchildren, Jacalyn and Todd Nitzel, several nieces, nephews and special friend Tom Jenkins.
Her first husband Raymond Slayton whom she married in the late 1930's preceded her in death as well as her second husband Frank Stambersky in 1983 whom she married in 1965. Velva was also preceded in death by an infant son and 3 brothers.
Visitation for Velva will be 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. The Reverend Max Amstutz will officiate.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
