Catherine

J. Appel, 83, died Friday, May 1, 2009 after a long courageous battle

with cancer.

She

was born August 8, 1925 in Detroit and has lived in the area since

1927. Her husband Earl Stewart Appel died October 31, 1990.

Catherine

was a graduate of St. Stephens High School. She was a life member

and active in the League of Catholic Women. She was a member of St.

Joseph Church, Charles Hammond Post #8 American Legion Auxiliary and

a member and past president of the FOP Lodge Auxiliary. She enjoyed

gardening.

She

is survived by her children, Laura Ericksen of Yale, David S. Appel

of Port Huron, Susie (Roger) Hayes of North Street, Paul M. Appel of

San Diego, CA, Juliann K. Gibbs of Port Huron, Clair T. (Scott)

Haxter of North Street and Deanna M. Appel of Port Huron; 4

grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; several close nieces and

nephews.

She

was also preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Alice Cassady and

her brother, Anthony Smith.

Funeral

Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church. The Rev. Brian K.

Cokonougher will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in

St. Clair.

Visiting

hours are 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Monday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home

and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the service time at church.

may be made to the League of Catholic Women Scholarship Fund.
