Joseph Edward Young, IV, 67, of Yale, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015, following a brief illness.
He was born November 10, 1947 in Mt. Clemens, to the late Joseph C. and Doraline R. Young, III. He married Katherine (Gossman) Durfee on December 6, 1986 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yale.
Joe was a 1965 graduate of Romeo High School. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, where he was a canine handler with the military police.
Joe was a gifted farmer who had a tremendous love of the land. He owned and operated Young’s Tractor Repair Service, where his expertise made him a valuable asset to all his area farmers.
He was a proud life member and current commander of VFW Post #8594 in Yale, a member of the Vietnam Dog Handler’s Association, and was a retired Brockway Township firefighter.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine; son, Joseph Durfee and fiancé Michelle, daughter, Karyn (Chris) Belanger; grandchildren, Amber, Carter and Abriana; brother, Ken (Nancy) Young, Gary (Lorraine) Young; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Julia Alvarado.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 6, 2015 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yale. The Reverend H. Thomas Kuehnemund will officiate.
Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Air Force and Veterans Honor Guard Alliance.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m., Sunday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.
