Edward J Schwanz
February 24th, 1949 to October 25th, 2015
Edward Joseph Schwanz, 66, of North Lakeport, died Sunday, October 25, 2015, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, after a brief illness, with his loving family by his side.
Ed, aka “The Big Easy”, was born February 24, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Jack and Betty Schwanz. He married Joanne Bain November 27, 1976, to whom he was happily married for 38 years.
The Big Easy was an avid sailor known to be able to take the helm during the roughest of storms, wheel in hand leaning on the lifelines and loving every second. He was a dedicated member of the Port Huron Yacht Club for 37 years, joining in 1978, and served as the club’s Commodore in 1994.
His passion for design and carpentry is evidenced by numerous homes and buildings in the Bluewater Area, as well as projects in Cairo, Egypt and London, England.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne; his sons, Erik (April) and Max (Meghan); his grandchildren, Camden, and Penelope; his five brothers, four sisters and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October, 29, at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home in Port Huron. His sister, Marilyn, will officiate.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the family would be appreciated.
