Rose Saffire Touma, 87, of Fort
Gratiot, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2009, surrounded by her
family. She was born in Niagara Falls, NY June 17, 1922 to Farris and
Adele Saffire. Her family moved to Detroit in 1945. She attended
Wayne State University. She married Dr. Emil Touma, D.D.S. On June
8, 1947. Rose later attended Port Huron Junior College and among her
accomplishments were crafts, interior design and real estate.
Rose was a member of Port Huron golf
Club, past president of PHGC Ladies Association, past member of Black
River Country Club, Glades Country Club in Naples, FL, member of
Beachers Mah Jongg League of Naples , FL and Lakewood Country Club in
Naples, FL. She was past president of Lake Huron Ladies Bowling
League, past president and honorary life member of Port Huron Garden
Club, past treasurer of Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, life member of Port
Huron Hospital Auxiliary and member of the ARC of St. Clair County.
She was a member of St. Mary Church in Port Huron and St. Ann Church
in Naples, FL.
Rose is survived by her husband of 62
years, Dr. Emil Touma, four daughters, Sharon (Mike) Adams of Ft.
Gratiot; Barbara Touma of Marysville; Janet (Lee) Hodge of Lakeport
and Judy (Chuck) Zimmer of Port Huron; eight grandchildren, Kim
(Bill) Janeczko of Midland; Dr. Tamar Finan (Dr. Chadi El Saleeby) of
Boston, MA; Emil (Ashley) Zimmer of Kalamazoo, Charlie (Erin) Zimmer
of Beaverton, Amy Zimmer-Smith of Port Huron; Michael Adams of Port
Huron; Miranda Hodge-Lee (Robert Lee) of Grand Rapids and Ryan Hodge
of Las Vegas, NV; nine great grandchildren, Erik and Ethan Smith,
Michael Adams, Jr., Nolan and Konnor Janeczko, Michael and Sofia
Saleeby and Hattan and Jameson Zimmer. Rose was known as Sittou
(Arabic for Grandma). She was preceded in death by her parents and
her sisters, Margaret and Marie.
Visitation for Rose will be Sunday,
July 12, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 9:00 pm in
Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home where the Rosary will be prayed at 6:00
pm. Additional visitation will be Monday at St. Mary Church from
10:00 am until her funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in
Mt. Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Emil and Charlie Zimmer,
Michael Adams, Ryan Hodge, Bill Janeczko, Dr. Chadi El Saleeby and
Robert E. Lee.
Memorial contributions in Rose's memory
may be made to the ARC of St. Clair County or as Mass offerings.
The family would like to thank her
caregivers, Liz Hyde and Tracy Cox, Port Huron Hospital Nursing
Staff, Marwood Rehab Staff and Dr. Anil Patel.
