Bruce Lancaster
Bruce E. Lancaster, 84, of Port Huron, and most recently Ormond Beach, FL, passed away in his sleep Tuesday, May 17, 2016.
He was born Jan. 5, 1932, in Bay City, MI. Mr. Lancaster was a graduate of Port Huron High School and Port Huron Junior College, where he earned an associate’s degree in industrial technology.
A veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Lancaster served active duty in the United States Navy from 1951-55 aboard two ships: the USS Steinaker and the USS Cassin Young. He then had a long and distinguished career as a civil engineer, working 31 years for the Dunbar & Sullivan Dredging Co. and 12 years for the Faust Corporation, before retiring in 2002.
He was a member of Saint Brendan’s Catholic Church of Ormond Beach.
Mr. Lancaster was the oldest of three children born to the late Bruce E. Lancaster Sr. of Henderson, NC and Mary Irene (Murphy) Lancaster of Duluth, MN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Roberta, who died Nov. 16, 2012, and a sister-in-law, Lily Lancaster.
Mr. Lancaster is survived by his sister, Mary Ethel “Mel” (Glenn) Wasz of Santa Ana, CA; a brother, John Richard Lancaster of Roswell, GA; sons, Joe (Lori) Lancaster of Taylor, MI and Patrick (Michelle) Lancaster of Battle Creek, MI; step-children Theresa (Bernie) L’ Esperance of Tomahawk, WI, Corey (Jo) Emig of Hermantown, MN, Jerry (Jody) Emig of Columbus, OH and Mardi (David) Sacks of Ormond Beach; 18 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2016 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home, 1720 Elk Street, Port Huron. Deacon Tim Maxwell will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Navy and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
