Joseph Peter Zauner, 91, passed away at

his home on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 with his loving family at

his side. Joe passed quietly and peacefully into the arms of the

angels. He was born February 20, 1918 in Port Huron.

Joe served in the U.S. Army during

WWII. He was active with the Boy Scouts and served as Assistant

Scout Master of Troop 11 and was awarded the St. George Award for

scouting. He was a member of the American Legion, the Port Huron

Sports Hall of Fame, the Elks Club and the Moose. He served as an

Usher at St. Joseph Church Joe was an avid card player, loved

gardening and was an avid golfer receiving two hole-in-ones. He

lived at the Blue Water Lodge for several years.

He is survived by his wife of 69

years, Evelyn L (Cowley) Zauner; daughter, Penny (Tom) Steeby of

Royal Oak; son, Robert C. (Sarah) Zauner of Fort Gratiot; daughter,

Diane (Jerry) Harris of Troy; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren;

sisters, Margaret Lowe of Mt. Clemens and Frances Reno of Port Huron.

He was preceded in death by 5 brothers

and sisters.

His Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m.

Monday at St. Joseph Church. The Rev. Joseph Gagnon will officiate.

Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Military Rites will be

conducted under the direction of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans

Council.

Visiting hours are 4-8 p.m. Sunday at

Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and from 9:30 a.m. until the service time

Monday at church. A rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Sunday

In lieu of flowers, the family

requests memorials to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Beaumont

Hospice or the Michigan Cancer Foundation.
