Edna Wilkins-Bowman

February 15th, 1920 to February 28th, 2010






Edna Kathleen Wilkins-Bowman passed away in Medilodge of Port Huron, after a short illness.

Edna was born February 15, 1920 in Stratford, Ontario to Catherine Jane (Blackman) and Henry Darby. They moved to Port Huron when she was a child. Edna graduated from Marysville High School in 1938. She was united in marriage to Francis (Art) Wilkins on August 29, 1941, who preceded her in death on August 15, 1985. Edna then married Foster (Mac) Bowman on March 8, 1999 and he died August 19, 2002.

She was a lifelong resident of the Port Huron area. She worked at Anker Holth, Women's Benefit Association, the City of Port Huron and retired from St. Clair County. She was a long time member of St. Johns United Church of Christ. Edna did volunteer work for the American Red Cross for many years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Salvation Army Golden Agers Club.

She loved to dance. She and Art use to square dance with two or three square dance clubs.. She and Mac also loved to dance. They danced at the Senior Center Over 50 Follies and the Cherry Beach Senior Center. They taught ballroom, square and round dancing in their home.

She is survived by her children, Kathy (Steve) Balmer of Port Huron, John Wilkins of Lansing, Phillip (Linda) Wilkins and Len (Debbie) Montoya of Marysville; step-children, Michael (Diane) Bowman of Royal Oak, William (Barbara) Bowman of Ambler, PA, John (Beven Rich) Bowman of Spirit Lake, Kathleen (Robert) Warzala of Bel Air, MD, Debra (Robert) Pearson of Port Huron, Jeanine (Francis Czopek) Bowman of Long Beach, CA and Wendy Bowman of Port Huron; 9 grandchildren; 19 step-grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and 12 step-great grandchildren; siblings, Cecil (Dollie) Darby and Dorothy DeLong as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Art Wilkins and Mac Bowman; brother William (Emma) Darby; sisters, Leona (Ernie) Jaekel and Hazel (Howard) Quant.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Johns United Church of Christ, 710 Pine Street, Port Huron. The Rev. William Terry will officiate. Interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery.

Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the service time Monday at church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Johns United Church of Christ.
