Betty J Hewitt

Betty J. “Bejie” Hewitt, 88, of Fort Gratiot, formerly of Fair Haven and Algonac, died Wednesday, October 4, 2017.

She was born November 3, 1928 in Orlando, Florida, to the late James and Marion Elizabeth Barlow. She married the love of her life, John H. “Jack” Hewitt, on June 4, 1948. He preceded her in death on July 17, 2007.

Betty was the church organist for 40 years and a founding member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Fair Haven. She was active in the North Channel Yacht Club and enjoyed playing bingo, golf and bowling. She wintered in Ruskin, Florida for 25 years.

She is survived by her children, James (Rosemarie) Hewitt, Michael (Debbie) Hewitt, Richard (Finola) Hewitt and Carolyn (Peter) Westbay; nine grandchildren, James (Heather) Andrews, Janet (Paris) Duvall, Jeffry Hewitt, Julie Hewitt, Jill Hewitt, Kelly (Ryan) Willems, John Hewitt, Alex Hewitt, Andrew Hewitt and Kavanagh Hewitt; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Gayleen Weller; two brothers, Allan (Ellie) Hurley and Roger (Chad) Hurley; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, October 16, 2017 at the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home, with visiting one hour prior to the service. Pastor Anthony Ferriell, chaplain of Heartland Hospice, will officiate.

Inurnment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, New Baltimore.
