Barry T. Colwell

Lakeport- Barry T. Colwell, 69, of Lakeport passed away on October 18, 2010, in the early morning after a prolonged battle with multiple health problems. He was born September 14, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan. A long time resident of Lakeport, Michigan, Barry graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for the Inmont Corporation as an engineer in a number of capacities from the time of his graduation until he retired in 1993. He was primarily responsible for the design and construction of the BASF-Inmont Research and Development Laboratory and office facility in Southfield Michigan, located at the corner of Eleven Mile Rd and Telegraph. He was an all-state swimmer at Cooley High School. His love of the water extended his entire life, as he became an avid and accomplished boater and diver. He completely restored and rebuilt a 1955 Pacemaker Motor Yacht, The Bears Den that won multiple awards at antique boat shows around the state. He is survived by his wife of 21 years Sharon Ann; his brother Don; his beloved sons, William and Jonathan; step-sons, Mark, Tony, Jeff and ten grandchildren. Mass of Resurrection will be 11am Saturday in St. Edward On-The-Lake Catholic Church, Lakeport. The Rev. Joseph M. Esper will officiate. Visitation will be 12:00 9:00 pm Friday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9:00am Saturday at the church. A scripture service will be 7 pm Friday evening. Memorials may be given to St. Edward On-The-Lake Catholic Church.
