Irvin L. Hayward

October 11th, 1925 to February 15th, 2011
Port Huron-Born in1925, Irvin Lee Hayward grew up in the Birch Run area. He obtained a B.A. from Central Michigan University and M. Ed./Educational Specialist degrees from the University of Michigan. He began his professional career as a Principal, then student teacher supervisor and finally as a teacher in the Old Grant School, Fort Gratiot system and Port Huron Northern High School. He served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Tidewater. Irvin married Kathleen Merkling of Saginaw, another C.M.U. graduate.

They have four children: Michele Hayward married to Michael Cinquino of Buffalo, New York; Heather Bringard widow of Richard Bringard of Lake Orion; Myra Hayward of Port Huron, and Staate Hayward of Manitowoc, Wisconsin. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Amanda married to Alex Maskovyak of Rochester, New York; Melinda Bringard of Traverse City, and Marine Sergeant Michael Bringard of Howel.

Irvin was a long time member of the Fort Gratiot Lions Club serving in various club offices including several terms as President. His retirement activities involved fishing, traveling, golf, gardening and family activities that were cut short by his death on February 15, 2011 with his wife and children at this side.

Mass of Resurrection will be 10am Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Zbiginew Zomerfeld will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council. Burial will be on Monday at 1pm in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Saginaw.

Visiting hours are 2-4 & 6-8 pm Friday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9:30am Saturday at the church. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm Friday evening.
