Josephine White Clark

On Friday, January 22, 2021, Josephine “Jo” White-Clark, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away at age 93.

Josephine was born on November 26, 1927 in Port Huron, MI to Gregorio and Lena (Paulas) Fernandez. She graduated from Port Huron High School in 1945 and worked at Chrysler until she retired to raise her three children.

Jo was a parishioner at St. Joseph and St. Stephen Catholic Church and had a passion for playing golf with her family and friends. She was a member at Willow Ridge and The Elks Club in Port Huron. One of her favorite sayings after hitting the golf ball was “It’s a Peach” from the movie Caddy Shack. Jo also loved gardening, dancing, music, and singing when she was just a young girl.

Jo was proceeded in death by her husbands, George R. White in 1986 and Bob Clark in 2017; a brother, Ralph Fernandez in 2016; a daughter, Cindy A. Gerlach in 2019; and a grandson, Jacob C. White in 1993.

She is survived by her sons, Gregory White (Shelly Campbell) of Traverse City, Michigan and David (Gail) White of Okemos, Michigan; her son-in-law, Gary Gerlach of Spring Lake, Michigan. She is further survived by her seven grandchildren, Andrew (Angela) Gerlach, Alex Gerlach, Rachel (Chris) Sabo, Kelly (Andrew) Deal, Zach White (fiancée Anna Kronner), Joe White, and Chloe White; and 3 great grandchildren, Ilaria and Nina Gerlach, and Luke Deal.

Jo will be missed by her family, along with some special people who were always there for her. Her nieces Paula Fernandez McVety and Laura Fernandez Nesbitt enjoyed special dinners out on the town and would always stop by to see if there was anything she needed. Her next-door neighbor, Betty Rippolle, who became more than a neighbor helping my mom with various tasks around the house, and sharing a meal from time to time. Many enjoyable dinners with the Dowd family were had throughout the years.

My mom was often worried what would be said in her obituary as she read of others who had so many accomplishments and achievements in their lifetime. Dad’s reply was, we can just say “Jo loved Frito’s”.
