Mary Ellen Horbes

Mary Ellen Horbes, 96, of Fort Gratiot, died Wednesday, May 26, 2021.

She was born January 5, 1925 in Kinde, Michigan to the late Edmund and Annie Ahearn. She married Frederick Horbes. He preceded her in death on September 14, 1985.

Mary Ellen was employed at Michigan Bell and then AT&T as an operator/supervisor for 30 years. She enjoyed crocheting, baking and spending time with her family.

She is survived by two sons, Tim (Karen) and Terence J. Horbes; grandchildren, Lisa Bell and Nicholas (Jennifer) Horbes; great grandchildren, Taylor (Cam) Babcock, Andrew Horbes and Tanner Davis; sisters, Patricia Decker and Cora Lovik; and brother, George Ahearn. She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 2021 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A limited number of people will be allowed in at a time.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2021 in St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Lee Acervo will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Edward on the Lake Catholic School or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
