Martin Garvey
Martin Lee Garvey, 75, of Port Huron, died Thursday, September 9, 2021.
He was born July 4, 1946 in Detroit to the late Morris and Elizabeth Garvey.
Martin was a graduate of Western High School in southwest Detroit. He went to Vietnam in 1964 and became a tunnel rat. He was noticed by officers and quickly became an NCO for the Generals and staff. He then went to Fort Wayne in Detroit as presiding NCO from 1968-1971. He was employed at the U.S. Post Office in Algonac and also as a social worker for the State of Michigan. Marty helped many veterans and other people get medical and housing assistance or whatever they needed.
He is survived by four sisters, Debra (Kenny) Heard and Kathleen, Carol and Shirley Garvey; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy Redes; and his stepfather, Pete Redes who raised him.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 16, 2021 in V.F.W. Charles Schoor Post #796. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
Inurnment will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly at a later date.
