Barbara J Kessel

Barbara Jean Kessel, 96, of Fort Gratiot, died Friday, September 17, 2021.

She was born July 15, 1925 in Kalamazoo to the late Robert and Marie English. She married John H. “Jack” Kessel on August 16, 1952 in Kalamazoo. He died April 17, 1990.

Barbara was a graduate of Mary Grove College in Detroit. She volunteered at Mercy Hospital and St. Vincent de Paul for over 25 years. She enjoyed hiking, loved to travel and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

She is survived by her children, Daniel (Ruth) Kessel, Robert (Cynthia) Kessel, Katherine Fannon, Lisa (Mark) Mertz and Karl Kessel; grandchildren, Kelly Roberts, Michael (Monica) Fannon, Kevin (Ellen) Fannon, Kristopher (Sarah) Kessel, Laura Eonta, James Mertz, Jin-ah Mertz, Emelé Mertz, Melissa Kessel and Karl Kessel; nine great grandchildren; and brothers, Richard (Irene) English and Thomas English. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Lou Brodie.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2021 in St. Mary Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate.

Inurnment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
