Lorraine D Roche
December 10th, 1925 to December 23rd, 2011
Lorraine (Bonin) Lapish Roche, formerly of Zephyrhills, Florida, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 23, 2011. Lorraine was born on December 10, 1925 to the late Frank and Della (Noel) Bonin in Sarnia, Ontario.
She met the love of her life, Robert Lapish, Sr. when crossing the Bridge on the bus route and they became sweethearts. They were united in Holy Matrimony on June 14, 1944.
During the war effort, mom worked at Mueller Brass as a "Rosie the Riveter" making brass bullets. She was a devoted wife and homemaker and loving mother to their six children.
Fun and laughs always centered around gatherings big and small with her large family and a spirited euchre game or two could usually be heard. Mom had a wonderful wit, laugh and sense of humor who loved to read and improve her vocabulary so she could "outdo" us with the use her newly acquired complex words. Besides playing euchre, in her earlier days her hobbies included bridge, cribbage, needlepoint, bowling and gardening. Lorraine and Bob were founding members of St. Mary Catholic Church in Port Huron.
After Bob's passing on November 19, 1970, mom went to work at Cunningham's Drug Store. Three times she was chosen by customer votes as "Cashier/Clerk of the Year' by the parent company.
Mom met her second husband, Fred Roche on a blind date and they were married in January of 1972. She always said she was lucky to find love twice in a lifetime.
In the mid-1980's, she and Fred became "snowbirds" and settled in Zephyrhills, Florida. It was here that golf got its claws into mom and never let go. So grand was her passion and exuberance for the sport that an annual "Lorraine Open" was played every summer in Forest, Ontario.
Fred passed away on March 20, 2004, but mom continued to live in Florida. She still stayed very active and golfed four times a week up until the age of 84 when she moved back home to stay.
Mom's main love in her life was always her family. She loved and was devoted to her husbands and adored her children and grandchildren.
She leaves to mourn her passing her children, Linda (Don) Leffler, Robert (Sally) Lapish, Jr., Julianne (Richard) Seefried, Martha (Brian) Hanley and Daniel (Jenyfer) Lapish. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Donald Wilson and step-son, Michael Roche. She was blessed with 16 grandchildren: William, Jere Lynn, Matthew, Joel, Nicole, Erika, Stacy, Jeff, Jayme, Angela, Christopher, Andrew, Kristen, Tully, Pippin, Ryker and step-grandson Brett. Other survivors are her 19 great-grandchildren and her siblings and spouses: Ralph (Teresa) Bonin, Betty (Richard) Learn, and Carol (Robert) Armstrong and sister-in-law, Theresa Bennett.
Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, her two husbands, and daughter, Nancy Jane Wilson. Siblings who passed away before her, Richard Bonin, Shirley Dennis, Donald Bonin, Doris Bennett, and her twin brother, John Bonin.
