Rojelio "Roy" L Rodriguez

Rojelio “Roy” Lopez Rodriguez, 93, of Port Huron, died Wednesday, September 28, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was born July 6, 1929 in Donna, Texas to the late Cervando and Guadalupe (Lopez) Rodriguez. Roy worked at Mueller Brass in Port Huron. He retired from New Haven Foundry after 26 years. He was also a part-time entrepreneur and a patient transporter for the Department of Health and Human Services. Roy was a tireless and selfless volunteer to many organizations and community programs. He humbly accepted the Juan Diego award from the Archdioceses of Detroit and Port Huron's Good Neighbor award. He was one of the many founders of the Guadalupe Mission of Port Huron where he was a caretaker, member of the Latin American Club (VP), he played baseball for the Port Huron Braves and later managed the team, board member of the Bilingual Program, Southside Coalition and organizer of Cinco de Mayo celebration at the Guadalupe Mission. By his example, Roy instilled reliability and strong work ethic into his children. He was very kind and giving to anyone in need. After many years of hard work and discipline, he was very proud to earn his GED. Roy was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and also loved Mexican music and movies. He is survived by his loving partner of 44 years, Carmen Medrano. Children of Roy and Ignacia Rodriguez; Roy (Joyce) Rodriguez, Isabel (Denny) Rodriguez Dale, Lupe (Ed) Hall, Ricardo (Cheryl) Rodriguez, Fernando (Barbara) Rodriguez, Francisco (Hisako) Rodriguez. Son-in-Law William Kearns, Raymond (Denise) Medrano, Richard Medrano, Ruben Medrano and Robert Medrano; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by former wife Ignacia Ramos Rodriguez, daughter Gloria Rodriguez Kearns, brother Robert Rodriguez, and cousin Guadalupe Villarreal. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2022 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. Mr. Rodriguez will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022 in Holy Trinity Parish St. Stephen Catholic Church. The Reverend Bradley Forintos will officiate. The burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
