Theodore “Ted” Stine, 94, of Clyde Township, died Monday, December 5, 2022.
He was born March 17, 1928 on the family farm in Port Huron to the late Theodore M. and Elizabeth Stine. He married Eileen M. Clute on August 30, 1952 in St. Stephen Catholic Church in Port Huron. She preceded him in death on May 12, 1998.
Ted graduated from St. Stephens High School and attended Port Huron Junior College. He was employed at Mueller Brass before leaving to serve in the U.S. Navy. He then received Master’s degrees from Wayne State University and Eastern Michigan University. He taught at several one-room school houses around the area and retired as Principal of Yale High School in 1983. He was a longtime member of St. Stephen Catholic Church.
He is survived by three daughters, Laurie McPhail, Kathleen (Jerry) Saelens and Janine Stine; foreign exchange daughter, Riitta “Mickey” Nevalainen; two granddaughters, Ashley Saelens (Stephen Schultz) and Chelsea (Bradley) Schlaufman; two honorary grandsons, Nico and Roni Harkonen; three great grandchildren, Riley, Jakob and Derek Schlaufman; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, Theodore M. Stine; grandson, Jeremy McPhail; son-in-law, John Donohoe; and brother, George (Hilary) Stine.
Visitation will be from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.
Family and friends will gather in the parking lot of Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 to process to Ruby Cemetery for 11:00 graveside services and military honors conducted under the auspices of the United States Navy and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Donn and Charles Clute, Shannon, Eric and Lyle Trexler and Mike and Gary Westrick.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
