Phyllis M Rowe

September 15th, 1930 to December 9th, 2022

Phyllis Marie Rowe, 92, of Fort Gratiot, died Friday, December 9, 2022 at the Blue Water Hospice Home from long term cardiac issues. Her daughter was at her side when she embraced Christ’s loving hand as she entered her spiritual journey.

She was born September 15, 1930 and grew up in Marine City, Michigan on the family farm with her parents Norman and Lynda (Seurynck) Zweng and her siblings. Phyllis graduated from Holy Cross High School in Marine City, Michigan. Mom was very proud of that accomplishment as she worked at the St. Clair Inn as a waitress while attending the last 2 years of high school to pay for her school tuition.

Mom met the love of her life in 1948 and they were married for 58 years before Dad died of complications from Alzheimer’s. Most of her working career (40 years plus) was as a waitress at the ‘Inn’ in the Coach Room. Some of her most humorous stories of life came from waiting on customers. She also worked as a sales associate at McHardys Fashions store in Marysville. In 1975, Mom, Dad and brother, Bob moved to Granby, Colorado and opened up the Longbranch restaurant that was very successful for 5 years before returning back to Port Huron, Michigan. Mom was very proud of the fact she was known as Ms. Kitty and famous for her delicious strawberry pies. She hung up her ‘apron’ at the age of 70. Needless to say, Mom had a strong work ethic and enjoyed hosting family gatherings. Her favorite card game was Euchre and played at various card groups. She was well known for her great sense of humor and stylish dressing. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lynn Beals; two sons, Robert and Kenneth (Jan) Rowe; beloved niece, Lori Palombo; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin in 2008; her parents; son, Thomas; son-in-law, Jim (Charlie) Beals; grandson, Jim Beals Jr.; sisters, Shirley (Walt) Sadlowski and Dorothy (Jerry) Cahill; brother, Bob (Margaret) Zweng; special cousin, Marilyn Zweng; and niece Dianne Palowsky.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 in St. Mary Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Joseph Gagnon will officiate.

Inurnment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron.
