Charles Stanley “Bud” Mathews, 74, of North Street, died Tuesday, February 21, 2023.
He was born January 14, 1949 in Port Huron to the late Marguerite E. and James A. Mathews Sr. He married Barbara J. Duda on March 16, 1968 in St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church.
Charles was a 1967 graduate of Port Huron Northern High School and was a Boy Scout and later a Scout Leader. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army. He worked as an electrician with IBEW Local 58. After becoming paralyzed, he received two associates degrees from SC4, majoring in arts and science. He served on the St. Clair County Parks and Recreation Board, Goodwill board, and the St. Clair County Accessibility Committee.
He loved music and playing guitar in a band when he was younger. He enjoyed baseball and was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoors person. In recent years, he was able to enjoy bird and deer watching in his backyard.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara; two daughters, Lisa (Mike) DeLacy and Angela (Bryan) Lyon; son, Lance (Tracey) Mathews; five grandchildren, Madison, Kaitlin, Emily, Ashley and Zachary; two brothers, Edward (Mary) Mathews and John (Lorie) Mathews; sister-in-law, Connie Mathews; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rich Mathews and Jim Mathews Jr.
Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2023 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2023 in Karrer Simpson Funeral Home. Pastor Robert Brannon will officiate.
Burial will be in Kinney Cemetery, Clyde Township. Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be made to Goodwill Industries or the St. Clair County Parks Memorial Bench, Brick and Tree Program.
