Catherine Ricketts

Catherine “Katie” Doherty Ricketts, 96, of Port Huron, Michigan, died Thursday, March 23, 2023 surrounded by her daughters and granddaughter Jackie Piper.

She was born January 19, 1927 in Port Huron to the late Edward and Mabel Doherty. Until the age of ten, she lived on the family farm in Emmett. She married William J. Ricketts on October 5, 1946 in St. Stephen Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on August 30, 2010.

Called Katie by her friends, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Holy Trinity Parish. She retired from a secretarial job at St. Joseph’s School after eighteen years of service. Katie was an active member of the League of Catholic Women until the age of 90, when dementia got the best of her.

Katie and her late husband Bill were longtime members of the Saltan Dance Club and the American Legion Dance Club. They spent many Saturday nights at the Fogcutter Restaurant dancing to the music of Bill Hampton or Lee Emig.

Katie and Bill spent winters in Jensen Beach Florida for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years. Katie is survived by four daughters, Mary Sue (Dan) Pompa, Kathie (Rick) Haas, Linda (Ed) Dezic and Rocky (Don) Piper; eight grandchildren, Michael (Laura) Pompa, Bryan (Alisha) Pompa, Betsy (Chris) Keimig, William Drayton, Kim Drayton, Christie (Kyle) Hecht, Jackie Piper and Matt (Ashley) Piper; six great-grandchildren, Owen Keimig, Bennett Keimig, Hunter Hecht, Piper Hecht, Roman Piper and Caleb Piper, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 14, 2023 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. followed by a time of sharing.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023 in Holy Trinity Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Reverend Bradley Fortinos and Deacon Dennis Crimmins will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron.
