Diane (Coon) Adolph, 89, of Burtchville, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023.

She was born on January 2, 1934 in Syracuse, New York to the late Donald G.M. and Marion Coon. She married Frederick P. Adolph Jr. on March 18, 1961 in First Congregational Church in Port Huron, Michigan. He preceded her in death on November 10, 2020.

Diane graduated from Chillicothe High School in Chillicothe, Illinois in 1952. She majored in speech pathology at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois and graduated in 1956. She was a loyal “Bradley Brave” alumnus and was an active member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and maintained a lifelong membership.

After graduation, Diane taught speech therapy in the St. Petersburg Florida school system for three years. She then secured a job in 1959 with the Port Huron Area School District as a multi-school speech and language pathologist. Her last 10 years were spent in a speech language program for pre-primary children and their parents…her first love.

Diane was involved in many activities, including Child Study Club, member and president of the Fort Gratiot Lions Club from 2008-2009, board member of the International Symphony, member of the League of Women Voters, Port Huron Musicale, AAUW, Blue Water Ski Club, the American Cancer Society Board, Sheldon Beach Association board member, and many church organizations. She was also an active member of the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association, the Port Huron Educational Association and regional representative for the PHEA to the MEA and NEA. She enjoyed her volunteer service at Port Huron Hospital and volunteered with the Port Huron Hospital Festival of Trees. She was a certified water safety instructor and taught for the Peoria, Illinois YMCA and summer camps in New Hampshire.

She was a world traveler and accompanied her husband on his 12 SC4 college credit course tours throughout Europe, East Germany, Russia, Yugolavia, Turkey, Greece and Morocco and countries throughout Central and South America. She and her husband, Fred, loved raising boxer dogs over 50 years, all names Spartan (1 through 12).

She is survived by her daughter, Andrea Adolph; sons, Kurt Adolph (Annette Gossman) and Fred “Fritz” (Connie) Adolph III; grandsons, Bradley (Kassie) and Connor Friedle; great grandson, Judah Robert Friedle; brother, George (Karen) Coon; sister, Patricia (Robert) Smith; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald G.M. Coon Jr.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2023 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2023 in Karrer Simpson Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Doctor Joseph Baunoch will officiate.
