James L Preininger

March 2nd, 1931 to February 13th, 2012
James Louis "Jim" Preininger, 80, went to his Lord Monday, Feb 13, 2012.

Jim was a 1950 graduate of St Stephen's High School and life long member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He was a proud veteran of the US Army 101st Airborne and member of the VFW, American Legion and an Honorary Retired member of Teamsters Local 164. For 20 years, Jim worked with his father at Preininger's Gulf Service Station at Military and White Street and then became a route salesman for Troy Laundry and Banner Linen.

His professional life constantly brought him in contact with the public and soon Jim became known as a "people person." He made friends easily and made people feel better about themselves. He had a great love of nature and found great joy in gardening, feeding the birds, playing with his cat; "Kit-Kat" and tending to the strays that would come to his back door. With his beloved Jan he enjoyed travel, and holiday times with family. In later years, he had great fun cooking and trying new recipes.

These past ten years he grew in his faith and love for Jesus; studying the Bible and sharing the good news with anyone he met. Having lived his entire life in Port Huron, Jim had a great love and respect for the Blue Water District and one of his greatest pleasures was gazing at the boats on Lake Huron and in the St. Clair River. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by daughter, Kathleen Preininger (Chip) Johns of Cincinnati, OH; granddaughters, Elizabeth Johns of Lacrosse, WI and Hillary Johns of Fort Collins, CO; sister, Mary Lou Miller of Port Huron and brother, William Preininger of Lakewood Ranch, FL; brothers-in-law, Carl Schurr of Baltimore, MD and William Schurr of Bradenton, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Violet and Louis Preininger; beloved wife, Jan and brother-in-law, David R. Miller.

Memorial Mass will be held Saturday at 1p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1331 - 7th Street, Port Huron. The Rev. Brian K. Cokonougher will officiate. Family will receive friends from 12 noon until the service time at church.

Memorials may be made to the Blue Water Area Humane Society.
