Leola B Smith

Leola Bell Smith, 87, of Fort Gratiot, died Sunday, December 3, 2023.

She was born September 30, 1936 in Blackduck, Minnesota to the late Herbert and Lottie Winch. She married Darrel W. Smith on March 1, 1954 in Port Huron. He preceded her in death on August 28, 2015.

Leola worked at London Dairy Bar in the late 70’s and also as a lunch lady for Fort Gratiot Middle School for many years. She was very crafty and enjoyed quilting and painting. Leola enjoyed flowers and gardening, was a great baker of all things sweet and also a beautiful wedding cake designer.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Robert) Hale; son, Darrel Smith Jr. (Rhonda Laming); grandchildren, Robert Dingman Jr., Alisha (Brad) Foltz and Megan (John) Powers; great grandchildren, Parker Dingman, Tanner Dingman, Kasey Ross, Landry Ross, Bryce Foltz, Brock Foltz, Elliott Powers and Aiden Powers; sister, Ialene Wynkoop; brother, Melvin (Sherry) Winch; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Claude Winch.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2023 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 8, 2023 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Dr. John Grenfell, III will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Fort Gratiot Township.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Clair County Council on Aging or the Blue Water Hospice Home.
