Josephine "Josie" M Nunez

Josephine "Josie" Margaret Nunez, 90, of Fort Gratiot, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.

She was born on March 19, 1933 in Lockhart, Texas to the late Antonio and Basilia Perez. She married Frank J. Nunez on April 23, 1966 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Port Huron.

Josie worked at Westside Cleaners in Port Huron, was a child care provider to Dr. Robert and Betty Williams, and was a homemaker before working and retiring after 20 years from McDonalds on Pine Grove as a breakfast cook. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, listening to Mexican music, working out at the Senior Center in Port Huron, watching the Tigers games and mall walking at the Birchwood Mall with Frank after which she would enjoy a coffee and breakfast with friends and on Thursdays play Bingo at McDonalds. She was a master at winning the church cake walks.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Frank J. Nunez; daughter, Cathy (David) Tovarez; son, Frank D Nunez; four grandchildren, Natalia and Arianna Tovarez, Frankie and Charlie Nunez; four sisters, Lupie Ancira, Theresa (Al) Perez, Manuela Martinez and Janie (Bob) Behringer; brother, Peter (Ann) Perez; five sisters-in-law, Rosie Perez, Carmen Perez, Mary Nunez, Rebecca (Robert) Hall and Gloria (Marty) Rose; two brothers-in-law, Jesse (Mary) Nunez and Michael (Nancy) Nunez; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Carl (Beulah) and Tony Perez; four brothers-in-law, Joe “Pinto” Ancira, Joe Martinez, Richard Nunez and Edward Nunez; sister-in-law, Amelia Navarro; and parents-in-law, Jose and Tomasa Nunez.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2024 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home, Port Huron, with visitation beginning at 11:30 a.m. Deacon Dennis Crimmins will officiate.

Inurnment will be in the Allied Veteran’s Cemetery Columbarium, Port Huron.
