Dawn E Rushton

July 26th, 1951 to February 3rd, 2024

Dawn Elyse Rushton, 72, of Port Huron, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024 with her family by her side.

She was born July 26, 1951 in Port Huron to the late William and Mary Lou McGregor. She married Steven Rushton on November 22, 1975 in St. Stephen Catholic Church in Port Huron, creating a union that they filled with love and experiences.

Dawn graduated from Port Huron Catholic High School in 1970. She had remarkable talent as a national champion in baton twirling, earning numerous honors and showcasing her grace and skills.

Known as “Miss Dawn” to her students, she was a dance instructor for many years. She dedicated herself to nurturing confidence in countless children. Her passion for teaching left an indelible mark, not only shaping their dance skills, but also instilling a sense of self-assurance.

Dawn is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, Steve Rushton. Together they raised two children, Nicole Rushton (Michael Brabant) and Richard Rushton (Terra Foster). Dawn’s legacy continues through her five beloved grandchildren, Nolan Hofer, William Neumann-Russel, Ashton, Ava and Aidan Foster. She is also survived by three brothers, Butch (Liz) McGregor, Greg (Belinda) McGregor and Walter Brown; four sisters, Joy McPherson, Connie (Jason) Lewandowski, Karri (Alan) Peltier and Mary Beth (Bob) Bramton; three sisters-in-law, Nancy Moats, Cyndi (Pat) Ashton and Dianna Rushton; her best friend, who was always by her side, Kathy Bruhns; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Hope Ann Chapman and Torre Frasier. Her memory lives on in the hearts of those she touched, leaving a legacy of love and inspiration.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2024 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024 in Holy Trinity Parish St. Stephen Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Lee Acervo will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
