Arnold “Joe” Hulverson, 87, of Fort Gratiot, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 22, 2025.

He was born June 7, 1938 in Croswell to the late Alger and Eleanor Hulverson. He married the love of his life Marlene Leadham on May 30, 1959 while stationed in England.

Joe joined the United States Air Force after graduating high school in 1957. He worked his way through college and became a commissioned officer in 1971. He proudly served his country for 28 years. After retiring from the Air Force, Joe earned his teaching certificate from Central Michigan University and became a teacher for the State of Michigan where he retired in 2004.

Joe was a life-long fan of the Detroit Tigers, loved researching family genealogy, solving Sudoku and crossword puzzles, but above all else, he loved nothing more than spending time with his family.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Marlene; daughter, Arlene (Mike) Halifax; son, David Hulverson; and one granddaughter who was the light of his life, Hannah. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Hulverson; daughter-in-law, Tracey Hulverson; and two siblings, Burt and Joann. Joe will be deeply missed by his family and his spirit will live on in their hearts through all of the memories that they made together.

In accordance with his wishes, a private family event will be held.
